DNF

There is a time in every athletes life when we get to that one workout and we just can't finish.  Whether we hit the time cap, hit our max or hit the infamous wall.  No matter what it is, DNF is not only good but it is helpful in guiding our journey of fitness.  We need to fail in order to succeed.  However, there is also that time when DNF needs to fuck itself....and you need to put on your big boy pants on and get it down.

In that time of failure, we begin to allow our mind to take over our muscles.  We need to dig deep and grind it out.  You will not only feel better that you finished it, not just because it is done, but because you quieted the quit button in your brain and you finished.

Sometimes we need to shut the clock off.  I am all for timing things, a run, a met-con or chipper.  But you know from the start when a workout is not going your way.  So why keep timing yourself.  Each time you look at the clock you send a negative message to yourself.  For what purpose, to tell yourself you suck.  You don't suck, today sucks, this run sucks. Nothing else.

Other times you need to cut the work short.  Ok, so you are not going to hit 6 miles today, but you got two.  That was more than someone else did.  I am sure that if you shut off the watch you would accomplish a lot more than you think.   Just go slow and get it done.

All and all fitness fluctuates and sometimes we feel really good and others not so much.  It is ok, just dig in and keep trying.  You will feel better knowing you finished and didn't quit.
