Energy balance is a concept that all people strive for; we are looking for the right calories in to gain and acquire the right amount of energy to then use for work, heat or storage in the body. Energy Balance isn’t just about what we eat for the next killer work-out, it is about homeostasis in the body from the tiniest molecular level to the largest physical function of the body.
There are three parts to energy balance negative, neutral and positive. Negative is when we are putting out more than we are consuming. Neutral is an equal amount of input and output while positive is taking in more than putting out. Severe negative and positive energy balance can cause issues in the bodies function. Without the right number of calories, we decrease bone mass, create metabolic issue and have a very limited energy. While severe positive energy balance cause plaguing in arteries, diabetes and obesity.
The trick is to find a healthy negative energy balance for weight loss or consistent neutral energy balance for weight maintenance. With whole nutritious food, along with consistent physical activity this can be achieved and a healthy lifestyle is yours.
