![]() What is Fodmap? Fodmap is an acronym for Fermentable, oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols. So, what is Fodmap? Sugar.....all kinds. Simple sugars, sugars that bind, and alcohol sugars. This by no means is this the very scientific definition in all nutrition text books, but in the very simplistic terms in all comes back to sugar. Fodmap foods are a highly gas forming food that creates a destructive cycle for ones bowels. Fodmap food triggers vary from person to person. So a food for one could create a little gas and bloating but to another could lead to vomiting and diarrhea. When symptoms become too much it is always a good idea to do food sensitivity testing. That being said, if you don't feel good after eating it, don't eat it. If you suffer from IBS, diverticulitis or other inflammatory diseases you should take a look at the link below. This is a list of foods that you should eat and avoid. Not sure if a food on the don't list impacts you, start a food diary. Journal how you feel before and after eating. You might surprise yourself on what you learn. I am all too familiar with Fodmap foods and IBS in my home. IBS is a life altering digestive disorder that prevents proper absorption of the nutrients in our foods. IBS becomes not just an inconvenient to life but a socially isolating disorder.
