High Cholesterol is a very dangerous thing when not treated properly. LDL (the bad one) can build up and plaque build up can happen in your arteries. This can put you at a very high risk for heart disease, heart attack, or stoke.
Not all is lost food can be just what the doctor ordered! No, not a Big Mac, that is what got you into this mess. However, you might be surprised with some of the foods that made it onto this list. Remembering of course portion size and exercise is SUPER important. Just because something is good for you, it doesn't mean you can eat a shit ton at a time. Calorie consumption, sugar intake, and fat (even the good kind) need to be balanced. 1) Dark Chocolate: Contain antioxidants that lower LDL 2) Avocado: Contains Oleic Acids that lowers LDL 3) Red wine: contains resveratrol that prevents damage to blood vessels. Yup 1 glass a day...not 4 just an FYI. 4) Black and Green Tea- Antioxidants for the win! 5) Nuts: high is polyunsaturated fats help in reducing LDL 6) Whole grains- The real unprocessed kind like barley, oatmeal and brown rice. These grains are packed with soluble fiber. This decreases the ability cholesterol has in being absorbed into the blood stream. 7) Fish: Hight is Omega-3's reducing triglycerides in the blood. 8) Olive Oil: stick with plant based oils and stay away from animal fat. I mean we all like a large dollop of Crisco, but probably not a good idea. (BTW, totally not serious Crisco should be outlawed) 9) Soy: a protein burst can lower LDL by 5% 10) BEANS: Beans of all colors, shapes and sizes. Rich in Soluble Fiber it attaches to cholesterol in the blood and helps it move on out of the body. (If you get my drift :)) 11) Fruit: Pears, apples, berries, bananas all high in fiber. But remember stick with fruit with a low glycemic index. We don't need to create another problem will fixing another. 12) VEGGIES: not a bad one in the bunch!
