![]() Understanding the importance of macronutrients. Vitamins and minerals are needed to keep us healthy. Vitamins are organic compounds that aid in all metabolic processes, like growing, cell repair, digestion, energy transfer, nervous system function and a healthy immune system. Different methods of food processes affect the way we process vitamin and minerals and how we absorb them in our bodies. For example, Fat Soluble vitamin need fat for proper absorption, while water soluble rely of molecular carriers. So, what does that mean? We need make sure we are eating a well-balanced diet not just to get the vitamins we need but, for proper absorption as well. The way we cook our food also impacts its nutrients. Water soluble are best raw, while fat soluble are best cooked. Minerals come from the earth. Minerals help regulate our bodily fluids and electrolytes. We need minerals to live and thrive just like vitamins. Minerals also come in two categories, macrominerals and microminerals. Examples of mscrominerals are magnesium, calcium, and potassium, whereas microminerals are iron, zinc and fluoride. Whether macro or micro they are a necessary part of our survival. Without vitamin and minerals, we will get sick, it disrupts the balance of our fluids and eating whole foods and how we absorb and digest all that food offers. By eating colorful fruits, veggies, mushrooms, lean proteins, wild game and fish, bean and legumes we can keep ourselves wonderful happy and feeling right.
